The Calgary Choice Awards is an annual fundraiser in support of the Green Learning Foundation. Currently in its first year, the Calgary Choice Awards bring together Calgarians and local businesses in a glamour-filled evening that celebrates the best Calgary has to offer.

Green Learning Foundation is a registered charitable organization that is dedicated to the education of the public; the foundation states that both teaching and learning can be more effective, relevant and meaningful through the use of Student-Directed Teaching. Green Learning Foundation supports breaking away from the traditional method of education, allowing the students to explore their world around them according to their own learning preferences: this makes education more meaningful for the child and enables the information to be retained longer. One of the ways in which the foundation accomplishes this is through the availability of scholarship opportunities to students who otherwise would not be able to benefit from Student-Directed Teaching.

Green Learning Foundation continuously pushes the boundaries of education: the foundation's mission is to facilitate children learning how to become true critical thinkers. By fully exploring their own personal strengths, the student becomes more innovative in problem-solving, resourceful and tolerant of others. The foundation further sponsors programs throughout Calgary and surrounding communities, such as free public monthly workshops on how children learn, Drop-N-Shop, The Learning Station, professional development courses and Green Learning Academy Programs.

Green Learning Foundation believes that all students are unique and, therefore, their education should be as well. Once teachers set the learning objectives, students should have a choice of how they will acquire and demonstrate their knowledge. Students are able to identify what they need to be successful, and, through the process of learning, they discover strategies to use when facing unfamiliar problems. The Green Learning Foundation believes students who are motivated to work and take ownership of their learning become independent thinkers, with strong self-esteems and the tools to succeed.

All funds raised at the Calgary Choice Awards go to the Green Learning Foundation.
